Why Is My Car Leaking Green Fluid?

If your car, SUV, or truck is leaking green fluid, it is leaking antifreeze/coolant. This can damage your engine because your engine may overheat if the coolant level is too low. Green is just one color in which the coolant comes. We are going to list the other colors below as well as the colors of other automotive fluids just in case the leaking fluid is a color other than green.

Blue

For example, if your automobile is leaking blue fluid, this can be another color of antifreeze/coolant but this is rare. Rather, it is more likely that your vehicle is leaking the solution that is used to clean the windshields. It is safe to drive your automobile if the washing solution is leaking out of the reservoir.

Brown

It isn’t safe to drive your automobile, however, if it is leaking brown fluid. As you already know, the oil that circulates through the engine is brown. Another oil in your automobile that is brown is the differential oil. Finally, the last brown automotive fluid is brake fluid.

Clear

Unless it smells like fuel, it is safe to drive your automobile if it is leaking clear fluid. This is usually just condensation from the air conditioner or out of the tailpipe. Make certain to smell the fluid, however, to confirm that it smells like water rather than gasoline or diesel fuel.

Orange

The antifreeze/coolant in your automobile may originally be orange or may turn orange if the radiator is rusted. If your vehicle is leaking antifreeze/coolant, it may not be a good idea to drive the automobile because the engine could overheat. This really depends on the size of the leak.

Red

In keeping with our theme, the antifreeze/coolant can also be red. This is not the only red fluid in your automobile. The transmission fluid is red and the power steering fluid is red. In addition, some brake systems have red brake fluid in them.

Yellow

The antifreeze/coolant can come in one final color, and this color is yellow. In addition, fresh brake fluid may be so light that it looks yellow, as well.

Make sure to check your owner’s manual to see when the fluids in your automobile need to be changed. When it is time, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can drain the old fluid, flush the system, and replace it with new fluid.
